Great game by Nick. Although the scoreline doesn't suggest it, it was a close game with only a few dice rolls deciding the match.

The Orcs found out that a failed pickup when you're surrounded by elves hurts. Also that getting 2 blitzes when you're elves, rocks!

Was a topsy turvey game with the elves out bashing the orcs and the orcs out throwing the elves!

Match: who wears short shorts (1) vs. Swedish Design (1)

The dwarves did their job on the first drive knocking out some elves and scoring with a crowd surf and score removing another catcher from the pitch.
The rest of the first half was clear sailing as the few elves left trioed to make it up the pitch to no avail.

The second half was an arm wrestle watching the dwarves turn over the elves a few times only to be elfed and have them sack the ball carried repeatdly with 1 db. in then end the dwarves failed to sack the one annoying blitzer who side stepped himself slowly to a td.

In the last 2 turn the dwarves pulled off some amazing passing until a troll slayer failed to catch for the td

good game by gumbi who is slowly losing elves

Match: Chaos lil Leaguers (1) vs. Atomic Winter (2)

160k in inducements... 2 Mercenary linemen taken...

In the epic struggle to see who could get screwed over by the dice more, chavo fell at the final hurdle. Actually passing and catching a ball to put sonya into the endzone and his team into the semi finals.

Chavo recieved and the first drive was everything but textbook. Shaddroth sacked the ball in the second turn and two marks on the ball. Chavo rerolled a bothdown/skull into a doubleskull early in his third (well late in the third as well i suppose). The following turn i crowd surfed one ulfenwerner, knocked out the other and injured the Ag 4 blitzer. At this point things were looking good.

Chavo did enough for three turns to prevent me from picking the ball up. For three turns i rolled nothing but pushes with 2 dice blocks while he pow'd at will with 1 dice blocks. Eventually the ball popped out of the scrum on his side and he ran away with it and scored in turn 8. Dissapointing but not disastrous given his numbers where thinning.

Second half was a fairly typical grinding drive. I thinned the numbers a little and decided to score rather than stall in turn 4. He had maybe 5-6 players left and 5 in the ko bin. Still i figured that he would get 2 rolls at the ko bin if it went to extra time.

3rd drive he got a quick snap, ran catcher and his troll up but failed to pick the ball up. I marked players up, dropped his possible slingshot options and moved shaddroth up to mark the ball and thrower. Double oned on the gfi and the rest is history. chavos thrower picked it up, threw a long pass that wasnt intercepted, rolled a 6 to catch the ball and then blitzed out of my tackle zones to score.

Match: Murishido's Mercenaries (2) vs. Minicider Vikings (0)

The Vikings hosted Merc’s undercover for a mid week match up which saw the mercenaries trot out a handy 2-0 victory despite the additional Norseman enlisted to offset the difference in development.

Only nine thousand diehard fans braved the monsoonal conditions to attend the match but Mercenaries treated them to some champagne blood bowl on the opening drive as Kerviel (Thrower) and Corzine (Thrower) put together an exquisite passing set that ended with the ball in the hands of lil’ Rodney Adler (goblin) who finished the champagne move by side stepping past Mick Tinglehoff (Werewolf) and stretching out for the score on turn 3.

The Norse came out of the drive unscathed and quickly went on the offensive. Jhared Allen (Werewolf) and Bill Brown (Berserker) put the black orc tandem of Conrad Black and Ken Lay into the dug out. It looked touch and go for Ken’s (Killed) career but the doc was able to reassemble the pieces for the second half (Apoth to BH).

But despite the numbers advantage and their frothing mouths the Norsemen just couldn’t make up enough ground and saw Charles Ponzi (Blitzer) fell Chuck Foreman (Beserker) with a vicious, and seemingly illegal, cut block smashing his knee (Niggle) and shutting down the last available running lane.

Going into the second half both teams lined up with only 10 on the pitch and the Vikings like a poorly funded regulator just couldn’t get and of their hits to land on the Orcs.

The retaliation from the green skins was swift and fierce with 4 norsemen heading to the infirmary during the drive as the Kweku Adaboli (Black Orc) touched up Scott Studwell (Lineman), Nick Gleason (Blitzer) rabbit punched Tingelhoff, Ponzi closelined Allen and Michael Milken (Black Orc) topped it all off back handing the no-name journeyman Norseman cracking his jaw (MNG) but sending him off more humiliated than hurt.

With the numbers heavily in the Orcs favour the Norse started playing dirty and fouling anything twitching on the turf the referee eventually deciding enough was enough sending John Randle (Lineman) to the sheds for an early shower as Raj Rajaratnam (Blitzer) ran in a TD uncontested.

With only 5 guys on the pitch on the ensuing drive Frank Tarkenton (Thrower) grabbed the ball and headed towards his own end zone and away from the green menace, Rajaratnam was able to run him down though but failed to scoop up the ball in the end zone during the final seconds of the game.

After the game the ‘Cider’s coach breathed a sigh of relief “Mate just happy to have a team after that. The boys only have themselves to blame – if you don’t make your blocks against a team like this you get put in the docs office”. Rumour has it that the ‘Cider’s 50k cut from the takings will go straight to an upgrade of the medical staff.

Beserker Bill Brown played a lone hand in a beaten team and looks keen to inflict some serious damage on opponents in the future.

The Mercenaries coach was delighted with the outcome as the first half looked like it might be a very tight affair.

“The guys came into the sheds a bit dejected when we weren’t able to put any guys off the pitch but I told the lads cut out that throwing %^&*, passing is for charity workers, nuns and volunteer meter maids keep hittin’ them and eventually we’ll be able to break through.”

Kerveil Was awarded the best on ground for his touch passing efforts and is rumoured to have used the prize money on a new treatment of tiger blood, shark cartilage and gorilla stem cells which apparently combine to increase acceleration.

Meanwhile Ponzi has started to regain the form that once had him regarded amongst the legends of the sport with his vicious hits becoming more accurate and timely.

Match: Murishido's Mercenaries (2) vs. The Rock Rumblers (0)

It was an all orc affair as the two rookie greenskin teams Murishido’s Mercenaries and the Rock Rumblers squared off in the opening exchange of the Zara the Slayer cup.

The Merc’s took a long road trip into hostile territory with the Rumbler’s fans enjoying a two to one advantage in the stands and the pre game riots.

The opening kick saw the Merc's Jerome Kerviel (Thrower) secure the ball and wander into the left side cage as his team mates did the best they could to lay some hurt on the front line.

The Rumblers got a sniff at breaking the cage early when, due to a Mercs coaching error, Krunch (Black Orc) got a clean blitzing line on Jerome but, like a french bank's compliance department couldn’t, get his hands on the slippery sucker and could only push him back.

The resultant positioning left poor Chopper (Blitzer) to be pushed into the stands, thankfully he was protected by his fans, as the Mercenaries ground their way to the end zone.

The half ended with Nick Leeson (blitzer) running in the 8th turn Merc score and Half Pint (Gobbo) in the injury box due to overconfidence with his dodging ability.

The second half started with the Merc’s kickoff beautifully back spinning into the teeth of the defence and denying the Rumblers the chance to set up a perfect cage. But in distinctly un orcy fashion as their cage began to break down Chum (Line Orc) craftily stepped back, handed off to Chukka (thrower), and then watched him scoot around the other flank and lob an inch perfect pass to Fodder (Line Orc) who was open on the under defended flank.

Unfortunately even with the coach lending advice form the sidelines (re-roll) Fodder just couldn’t bring the pigskin in allowing the Mercs to again swarm to the ball.

As punishment for this cowardly elfish display the Merc’s Conrad Black (Black Orc) decapitated Chopper, who was heard protesting his innocence with his garbled last breathes.

The throwing shenanigans were not to end there though as the Rock Rumblers quickly spilled the ball free and Gouger (Blitzer) tried a long bomb heave to an open Midget (Gobbo).

Gouger’s aim was off though and the ball went sailing into the crowd, fortunately the rock rumblers fans were more accurate putting the ball just shy of the end zone with Midget in range for a pick up.

Charles Ponzi (Blitzer), eyes always on the prize, ran down the cowering goblin and put him in the infirmary.

With the threat of the quick counter attack now quashed the Mercs were then able to construct their own reply, and with an 11 on 8 numbers advantage Bernie Madolf punched in the second TD for the 2-0 win and the match MVP.

The Rumblers coach deserved to feel hard done by but at least collected a winners check of 50k, which might enable him to get some insurance for those decapitations. He also lauded the play of Chukka whose development suggests he need not be pigeon holed as just a thrower (doubles on skill roll) for this Rock Rumblers team.

The Merc’s coach was happy to get out with the win on the scoreboard and the hospital beds whilst taking home a 60k cheque. “Bernie was a beast out there today, he’s the best at what we do and I think we’re going to see him ending some more careers before this season is out”

Match: Big Bang Theory (2) vs. La French Play-gue (1)

The game began with La French Play-gue receiving, and in typical Rat style, scoring in turn 2. Of course the quad skull blitz on the ball carrier by the Big Bang Theory was far from an auspicious start...

The first half continued with the Big Bang Theory receiving. The minotaur (with Juggernaut) made a Blitz as the first action in order to try and surf a rat. Making a colossal mistake it was a 2 dice block, and double skulls ensued followed by a wasted re-roll. Rats certainly don't need more invitation than that and immediately La French Play-gue put the pressure on.

Big Bang Theory managed to lose the ball (another quad skull blitzing with the ball carrier), and should of lost the game, but a rat blitz to score failed. Somehow the Big Bang Theory got the ball back and bundled it up field to make 1-1 at half time and breathe a side of relief.

The second half saw the Big Bang Theory grind their way slowly down field. The rats started to leave the field, as much by the sideline as by stretcher. Taking out the minotaur was not enough to compensate, and the Big Bang Theory guarded the ball and managed to score in turn 8. An attempt to score in the final turn by the rats came to naught and the Big Bang Theory held on for a 2-1 victory.

Match: Neue Stadt Bluebags (1) vs. The Captain Awesome All Stars (3)

The All-Stars journey out to Bluebag Stadium was a happy as the orange-and-black attack stretch their unbeaten streak to 4 games with a comfortable 3-1 victory.

Winning the toss and kicking, the Bluebags seemed happt to let the elves score and reply in the first half to set for a second half long drive. Unfirtunately the rain caused a fumbled catch which allowed the Elves to sneak in at half time with a 2-0 lead. The highlight of the first half was the 6,6 + 6,6 foul (which has apothed from a BH), that allowed the elves to even the player count.

Drusus poulled on back on turn 5, which set the stage for an exciting finish, but the elves held their nerve and were rewarded with a third at the very end of the game.

CAS count was 3-2 to the humans (with 1 from a foul), and both elven CAS from crowdsurfing.

Team news by Chaos lil Leaguers

Coach Grumpsh gave a stirring eulogy today at Nashkar's funeral. A funeral which was not so much a sad affair, but more a celebration that he was no longer as Coach Grumpsh put it "a sucking hole on our salary cap"

"I like to think not so much that i've lost a player. But rather gained a point of armour on my offensive line" he went on to say. Fellow player Corranik also commented on his "lack of work ethic" and reminisced about how they'd been playing together for as long as he could remember, and how he "always knew he'd never amount to anything"

Nashkar, who was present for the entire affair refused to comment when asked about the general air of the proceedings and only mentioned that he was looking forward to his new team "Disturbed" and working with first class coach/necromancer Rabidbogscum.

Match: Disturbed (0) vs. Chaos lil Leaguers (3)

well 5 out of 6 regen rolls success!!! 5 from team and 1 foul + 1 crowd surf. This game was closer at times than the scoreline suggested. The first half was grind and drive from me. Corranik did 3 casualties in the first 3 turns. When "down with the sickness" killed "Naskar" against the run of play i thought i better let him stay dead. Because i know rabid and he's never rolled a badly hurt in his life. He went on to do another 3 casualties which were, MNG (apothed to BH) Dead and SI-1av.

So this was a costly game for me in terms of money. I think both coaches went away fairly happy. Rabid was probrably unlucky not to go down 2-1 but the distance my Bull Centuars can cover makes the sprint to the finish a little tricky at best.

Match: Meat The Beast (2) vs. die grune Bedrohung (1)

Tough scrum characterised by lots of Guard on both sides of the ball.

MEAT the Beast turned the the Orcs over after several attempts. Sacking the ball carrier and finally being able to get to it after it bobbled free. They scrambled clear with the Orcs in hot pursuit. But managed to get clear for the TD. It should be noted that Coach Burn overlooked the presence of his wizard for most of the game having forgotten it was present.

The Orcs were t draw 1-1 at the half though when Coach D_Arquebus forgot about the 1 turn TD pass and left a wide gap in his defense. The plucky little Otto Von Bismark (Goblin) sailed in to land and score much to the opponents chagrin :P .

The Beast received and pushed left. The Orcs almost over powered them in the arm wrestle that developed so The Beast had to again pull a scrambling play to get clear. It was at this point that Einstein's Ghost (Troll) failed his one turn and fell over without Blocking experience costing some Team Training at the same time. This allowed Giblet (star Ghoul) to run straight in to score. 2-1 to Meat the Beast.

The Orcs of Die Grune Bedrohung had 4-5 turns to equalise, but were to prove unable to meet the task. But only a 5+ pick up, 5+ pass (with he skill) and a +3 catch away from equalising.

Cheers Burn for the game. Was a tough match and went right down to the wire. The perm injury on Kidneys may prove telling in the Finals Series to come.

Match: Morwyr (2) vs. Horrible Hybrids (1)

An overcast day in the inner west as Morwyr played host to the Horrible Hybrids in front of a large home crowd. The Hybrids were boosted by Zzharg to put the two teams on 12 players a piece as for the first time since there inaugural game Morwyr weren't relying on any Journeymen.

The Hybrids won the toss much to the displeasure of the home fans as the Elves were forced to kick but an extra reroll was the upside. The Hybrids were mild in the opening drive inflicting no casualties whilst Y Trallwng (lineelf) managed to take down a dwarf much to the pleasure of the crowd. Good pressure by the Elves saw the Hybrids scoring earlier than they would have liked with the number two bull centaur running it in.

Morwyr received mid way through the half and the Hybrids sought to bring some more pain whilst being down a player. Caerwynn (thrower) backed up from a completion in his first game against the Spear of Akkad with another succesful throw to Dalfa (catcher). As the drive went along rhwystro was forced out of the rest of the game and the next By the other bull centaur. After some scrappyness deep in the Hybrids hald Daliad (catcher) finally reclaimed the ball and scored on the stroke of half time.

Morwyr returned in the second half the much stronger team and proceeded to use a running game to good advantage over the Hybrids after recieving another reroll. Running down the left with the throwers and a few line elfs the remain blitzer and the catchers provided options deep in the Hybrids half that pulled dwarves out of position. Although a couple of elves were KO'd it eventually took a relative easy handoff by Taliad (thrower) to Daliad in a tackle zone before the catcher dodge away from the bull centaur to score Morwyr's second touchdown.

Sensing that the game was in the balance the home crowd rioted forcing the ref to wind the clock forward and giving the elves a chance to shut the Hybrids out for the half. The Hybrids responded by going on the warpath and giving Abertawe a niggling injury and due to the quick work of the apoth Maesyfed got off the hook from being killed with only being badly hurt and quickly rushed back to the reserves bench. With dwindling numbers the Elves failed to put the threatening bull centaur on the ground late in the half but with with an unsucessful handoff attempt which bounced around for an eternity before finally going out and being thrown back into the hybrids half the Elves held on for the win.

Match: Spear of Akkad (2) vs. Morwyr (1)

This game was the classic Undead game of attrition, successful despite the freebooted Apothecary and Bloodweiser Babe. The Elves started with the ball and advanced quickly, but Namtar managed to bring down and Badly Hurt Rhwystro the Elven Blitzer with the ball just in time (who was immediately patched up by the mercenary Apothecary). After putting up a loose net around the loose ball, Nazag attempted a simple Dodge to recover the ball, but was tripped up by a skilfully placed Elven foot and killed! The next turn saw the Elves put a few tackle zones on the ball and the Undead attempted to bounce the ball free. After three failed catches, the ball ended behind the waiting Elves. On Turn 4, Cyff, the remaining Elven Blitzer on the pitch, deftly dodged into the defender's tackle zone, grabbed the ball, dodged away and scored.

The next drive started with a Riot, extending the half by one turn. The Undead began the drive with another KO and casualty, then grabbed the ball and formed a cage. Azag the Skeleton attempted a sneaky Foul to eliminate Cyff the Blitzer, but couldn't manage to break his armour. The remaining five turns saw a slow, grinding advance towards the end zone with lots of blocks, a few more KOs and another casualty (Badly Hurt on Caergybi the Lineman). The Spear made one more attempt to Foul out Cyff, but this time Ekku the Skeleton was caught and sent off. The Undead scored on Turn 8 to even the score at halftime.

With two players out of the game with casualties, the Elves needed their KO'd players back, but only managed one out of three (?), starting the second half with eight players against ten Undead. The Spear received the kick, caged up again and began another slow march towards the end zone. Another two KO's left the Elves struggling to deal with the Undead cage and the Undead decided to play it safe against the slippery elves, scoring on Turn 8 and leaving only one turn to secure the game.

The "Bushrangers" led by their star catcher Jack Donahue finished off their season with a win over the Slann team "From Tadpoles to Toads" who were also in contention for the title. They finished on equal points to the Lizardmen of "Ice Age" but had beaten them in the first game of the season so snared the title and with it the services of the stone cold killer Star Player, Ulgroth Bolgrot.

There are still some games to be played to round out the season, but already we are looking towards the next Rookie League which should start in February. Zara the Slayer will be making herself available as an inducement to the season 2 champions. So dont be shy. Saddle up a new team and get on in there.

The only thing I can say about this game is that Chavo's Elves work like elves and mine die like elves, but play like goblins.

Chavo played well and rolled what he need to maintain the ball to score or pick up the ball when needed. Mathfuric (I am speaking the third person because it upsets me to think about as happening to me) played well but rolled so many "1's" that he threw his current set of dice into the bin in turn 3 of the second half, and to top it off everytime I rolled a fumble pass, failed dodge or GFI that damn Ag5 lineman was there to pick it up and leap over people and runaway (Damn you Private Parts!!!!!).

It was game which was dominated by my bad luck (and a second set of dice did not help, they are now found in the bin as well), but well done to Chavo he took good advantage of it as the score and SPP count will account for. Oh well next game, maybe?
